Control the Damage, Stay Alive

Food for Health Damage Control is a place for Boomers who have discovered that they have aged and are interested in making the most of what’s left, like us.  We don’t want to be ‘taken care of in our old age, or have to rely on others.  We want to be able to get around on our own.

The alternative is a drastic lifestyle change –the loss of independence and reliance on others.  Boomers are, by definition, at the age where how well they’ve take care of themselves starts to show –or, may already be showing.

If you are someone who would like to “balance the books” for past indiscretions, in terms of life style and general absense of health damage control, you will find some links to helpful information and products to improve your diet. Improving one’s diet consists of, not only, eating more of the “right things,” but also, staying away from other “food-like substances” (prevalent in our industrial diet) which do no good and may be detrimental to the cause. We now face the prospect of living to the ‘age of disability’."   Not all that long ago, many folks passed on before they became disabled.  With modern diagnostics, surgical procedures and drugs, many are living longer now, thankfully –and long enough to become physically disabled.  Which leads to a drastic change in lifestyle with a loss of independence in many cases.

If, like us, your goal is to push the age of disability out as far as possible –and have a mind to be proactive about it –you are in the right place.  If you haven’t already, you may discover the link between good nutrition and good health.  We now believe our level of nutrition is better than it ever was when we were younger.  As a result, our immune systems seem to be serving us well.  We catch fewer colds.  Our blood chemistry is where it should be.   There are some other things you may expect –changes that we have noticed.    For example, we are about as regular as the average gull.  That alone, we find, is life changing.  You may notice that you require less sleep.  You may notice your general level of energy will be higher.  The higher level of nutrition, for us, seems to have taken care of a lot of ‘little things’ -for example, I see hardly any hair in the sink anymore.   I am of the opinion that if your gastro-intestinal tract is in shape, everything else kind of falls in line -your immune system, your blood chemistry, bowel regularity and everything related -mood, energy level, the degree to which we feel alive, generally, or, how much Life Force we possess.

Speaking of energy level, here’s a little two minute movie for baby boomers and retirement or, those thinking about it called:

I Feel Like Crap (click on title).  Can you relate?
